The state parliament has launched the job advertisement for a top position. The position of the representative for the processing of the SED dictatorship in Saxony-Anhalt is to be filled.

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Saxony-Anhalt is looking for a new officer to deal with the SED dictatorship. The state parliament has published the job advertisement, as a spokeswoman for the parliament confirmed on request. Applicants have until the end of February to submit their documents.

So far, Birgit Neumann-Becker has held the office. After her election by the state parliament in 2013, she was appointed State Stasi Commissioner at the time. Neumann-Becker was active in the church opposition in the GDR. She was born in Görlitz in 1963. After reunification she was a pastor in Magdeburg and Merseburg, among other places.

Since 2017, the title has been State Commissioner for Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship. The tasks have thus been expanded. The reappraisal should no longer just be about state security, but also about other GDR institutions and the time of the Soviet occupation. Neumann-Becker was re-elected in March 2018. According to the law, however, this is only possible once.

The state parliament elects the state representative with the majority of its members. The election is for a period of five years. The person must have reached the age of 35 on election day and must not be older than 65 years.
