A first consignment of TOA M-113 armored personnel carriers that Spain is going to send to Ukraine arrived this Thursday at the Port of Bilbao, sources from the Customs service have informed EFE.
These are the first vehicles of this type to arrive at the Bilbao port facilities of the 20 that Spain is going to deliver to Ukraine to contribute to the military effort of this country against the aggression it is suffering from the Russian army.
These first vehicles arrived this afternoon by road at the Port of Bilbao in at least three special transports, with three armored vehicles each, escorted by the Ertzaintza.
The 20 TOA M-113 (armored caterpillar transport) will depart on Monday, April 6, bound for a port in the Baltic Sea in an ordinary transport by ship chartered by a private consignee that operates in the Port of Bilbao, sources have specified. of the Port Authority.
The delivery of the twenty TOA to Ukraine is part of the commitment with Ukraine, as are the Leopard 24A tanks that Spain plans to send to that country, probably next spring.
These tanks will come out of the 53 that have been inoperative for a decade and stored in the Logistics Support Group No. 41 in Casetas (Zaragoza).
They are the oldest that the Spanish Army has -bought from Germany in the 1990s-, and require a set-up that would take about a month and a half, according to Defense sources, which suggest that the training of the Ukrainian military in their use and handling would require another month.
