Every self-respecting driver tries to pamper his car to keep it looking like the day it left the dealership. That the body does not show scratches and dents is one of the main obsessions, but sooner or later there will be a column, a small collision, a blow or someone who puts their buttocks on the vehicle, leaving dents in the sheet metal. Luckily, removing that damage is a lot easier than it sounds.

On many occasions to remove a dent from the car it is not necessary to go to the workshop, since there are several tricks and home methods with which to obtain good results. Some of these processes do not even require special skill to leave the body like new.

It is the simplest, most effective and cheapest method. The idea is to apply a sudden temperature contrast to the dent so that the shape of the sheet returns to its original shape with hot and cold water. The greater the temperature difference, the better.

On the one hand, we heat a couple of liters of water in a pot on the fire until it boils. On the other hand, we cool a bottle of water in the freezer or add a good amount of ice to a container with water. If you choose the second option, it is recommended to add salt so that the ice melts sooner. Once we have both waters prepared, we are ready to remove the bun.

First we pour the boiling water over the dent and surroundings. It should be poured little by little, allowing time for the affected area to warm up. Right after, we do the same with the ice water.

If we have managed to apply enough temperature contrast, it may be enough for the metal to contract and return to its original shape. If this is not the case, it is usually enough to give several taps with a closed hand around the bun and from different angles to work the recovery of the body. In case the dent has not been completely removed, we repeat the whole process from the beginning as many times as necessary.

Another option is to fix the sheet by pulling them. Suction cups for car bodies of different sizes are available at cheap prices in specialized stores. However, if the size of the bun is large and flat enough, you can use a plunger like the ones we have at home for pipes and sinks. The first thing is to wet the body in the damaged area with hot water and then place the suction cup on the deformation and pull hard. For smaller sinkholes, you can try a suction cup for a mobile phone support or any other object that contains that concave piece of elastic material, although the results will depend on the force that can be exerted.

A hair dryer can also be a good ally to leave the armor of the car like the first day. Heat must be applied with the hot air that comes out of the apparatus on the metal for a few minutes so that it heats up. If the temperature can be increased considerably, it may be enough to remove the dent.

This method can be enhanced by applying dry ice after the sink has been heated. If you opt for this, after using the hair dryer, you should cover the area with aluminum foil for protection, sticking it to the bodywork, and then rub a block of dry ice (wearing gloves) on the paper. Repeat the process (hot air and dry ice) until the damage is gone.

Another somewhat more laborious method is to use hot glue, also known as hot glue, a thermoplastic adhesive that comes in cylindrical sticks and that is melted in a specific gun. To remove dents from the bodywork you also need wooden dowels to use as pull handles.

The first thing is to apply hot glue to the ends of the wooden dowels. Several dowels (the number depends on the size of the dent) should be glued in different places on the affected area. After waiting for them to dry, you have to pull each one of them until the dent disappears. Hot glue is removed from the veneer by applying heat or alcohol.

Another simpler alternative that does not require a gun is to group several sticks of hot melt glue into a bunch, which are as thick as possible so that they cover a considerable surface of the dent. Then we tied them tightly with tape. Next, one end of the glue bouquet should be burned with a lighter or candles until they begin to melt. At that point, we glue the bars to the sheet metal and wait five minutes for them to dry. It only remains to pull out with some force.

A bucket, a (powerful) vacuum cleaner and masking tape. This method that appears on different specialized pages is the most cumbersome and the least practical. The first step is to make a hole in the bottom of the bucket that the inlet end of the vacuum tube can pass through, sealing the gap with masking tape. Then you have to glue the hub with more tape on the body. The closure must be as airtight as possible in order for the suction to be powerful enough for the sheet to return to its place.
