Schwerin (dpa / mv) – Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania hopes that as many young educators as possible will start working in schools in the state. As the Ministry of Education announced, 64 trainee teachers received the certificates for the second state examination at a ceremony in Schwerin on Wednesday after completing their preparatory service. One third each obtained the qualifications for elementary school and regional school. There were also twelve vocational school teachers, five special education teachers and three high school teachers.
According to the ministry, 54 of the graduates received an immediate job offer. You could start at a school in the Northeast without reapplying. Among other things, with the help of such takeover guarantees, it should be possible to keep as many teaching students in the country after they have successfully completed their studies, explained Education Minister Simone Oldenburg (left). According to her information, 80 new trainee teachers began their 18-month preparatory service on Wednesday. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania this can be started four times a year; on August 1st, October 1st, February 1st and April 1st.
According to the ministry, the country has to hire around 700 teachers every year to replace colleagues who are retiring due to age or to cover additional needs. However, hiring young teachers after a successful traineeship is not sufficient for this. In the previous year, a third of the new teachers came into the state’s school service as lateral entrants without any pedagogical training.
