Erfurt (dpa/th) – Thuringian breweries sold slightly less beer in 2022 than in the previous year. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on Wednesday, a total of around 291 million liters of beer flowed from Thuringia in Germany and abroad. That is about 1.4 percent less than in 2021. According to the figures, the amount of beer that Thuringian breweries sold in Germany alone fell by 0.6 percent.
Thuringian breweries were therefore unable to benefit from the general development in Germany. According to Destatis, beer sales in German breweries rose by around 2.7 percent in 2022. Compared to the pre-Corona year 2019, however, this is still a minus of around five percent.
Overall, the German brewing industry is under great pressure due to increased costs for raw materials and energy, the German Brewers’ Association complained. “Numerous breweries in Germany have already announced price increases for this year,” said General Manager Holger Eichele.
