Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – In the long debate about a nationwide return to high school in nine years, the green-black coalition is still willing to talk. The Greens in particular want to stick to the eight-year model against the will of the opposition. The CDU is ready to talk, but follows the coalition partner. The governing parties therefore continued to refuse to offer G9 in all high schools on Wednesday in the state parliament.

According to SPD parliamentary group leader Andreas Stoch, the calls for freedom of choice in high schools are getting louder and louder. The state government is making excuses and is looking for excuses not to have to expand the G9. From a pedagogical point of view, the introduction of G8 was a mistake that Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) had to correct.

The FDP accused the Greens of being the only parliamentary group to oppose the wishes of most students and parents. The Greens stuck to the G8 so that the general secondary schools appeared as unattractive as possible and more secondary school children opted for the community school, said the FDP education expert Timm Kern. It is incomprehensible that the CDU parliamentary group accepts “such a green, ideological education policy”. Kern called for G9 to be introduced in the regular form at every high school.

The Greens get backing from business. The demands for a return to the G9 were misleading, said Stefan Küpper from the Entrepreneurs Baden-Württemberg (UBW). “It is not clear how this can make a substantial contribution to solving even one of the current educational policy challenges.” Rather, additional resources would be required for G9 at the expense of other projects.

On the other hand, the CDU was open to a return to the G9. You can see the desire for change in the setup of the high schools, said education expert Alexander Becker. However, it was agreed in the coalition agreement not to change the structures at the schools during this legislative period.
