Heppenheim (dpa/lhe) – A heavily drunk driver hit a mother and her three-year-old child in Heppenheim, seriously injured them and then fled. On Wednesday morning, the 25-year-old crossed a zebra crossing with her child, the police said. There was a collision between the 57-year-old’s car and the two pedestrians. According to initial findings, the driver stopped briefly and then drove on. The officers immediately found the man’s home address and arrested him there. The mother and her child were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

A breath alcohol test showed the 57-year-old to be over three per thousand. A blood sample was taken from him. His driver’s license was also seized. The 57-year-old now has to answer in criminal proceedings.
