Union Berlin wants to ensure the biggest transfer coup in the Bundesliga, but the change from Isco to Köpenick bursts on the last meter. The former Real Madrid star is already in Berlin, completing the medical check – and then the deal goes down the drain.
Nothing will happen with the surprise coup: Isco will not switch to Union Berlin. This is reported, among other things, by “Bild” and Sport1. The 30-year-old Spaniard was in Köpenick for a medical check-up at noon and is said to have passed it successfully. According to media reports, negotiations with the five-time Champions League winner about final details were then unsuccessful. Union and the clubless Isco have not yet commented.
There has never been such a renowned player as Isco, who played with Cristiano Ronaldo and Toni Kroos at Real Madrid and was considered a world-class player, in the squad of the Unioners, which have been first-class since 2019. Because his contract with FC Sevilla was terminated on December 21, Isco was last without a club and is therefore available on a free transfer. After the two World Cup participants Josip Juranovic from Croatia and Aïssa Laïdouni from Tunisia, who together cost around 13 million euros, it would be the third winter transfer – and another signal for the turning point in second place in the Bundesliga.
More information will follow shortly.
