Ulm/Schlierbach (dpa/lby) – Because he is said to have shot his own brother with a crossbow, a man has to face a trial before the Ulm district court. The public prosecutor’s office accuses the 59-year-old of threatening two brothers in his parents’ house in Schlierbach in Baden-Württemberg in September and of shooting and injuring the younger one (55).
At the start of the trial on Tuesday, the 59-year-old had his defense attorney explain that he only wanted to scare his brothers, not kill them. After the statement, a recording of a call to the police was played in court. During the phone call, the accused reported the crime to the police.
According to the investigation, the attack was preceded by difficult family circumstances and a lengthy dispute over the accommodation of the mother of the four brothers, who was in need of care. The mother had last lived with the accused and the fourth brother in the house in Schlierbach.
According to the public prosecutor’s office, the argument escalated on the property of the parents’ house. Accordingly, the accused asked his 55-year-old and his 60-year-old brother to leave the premises.
While the older one complied with the request, the younger one sought protection in the house. There the defendant fired a crossbow through a glass door behind which his younger brother was standing. The 55-year-old suffered, among other things, a hematoma.
