Dresden (dpa / sn) – The Saxon CDU calls on the federal government to stand by the coal phase-out in 2038. This emerges from a decision made by the CDU state board at a closed conference on Friday and Saturday. “We expect the federal government to make a clear commitment to the result of the coal compromise, with the most modern lignite-fired power plants running until 2038,” it says.
Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) only spoke out in favor of an earlier exit from coal in the East at the beginning of January. An early exit to 2030 must be agreed by consensus.
The Saxony-CDU, on the other hand, emphasizes that in the current situation coal is “by far the most important energy source in our country”. Germany’s “highly developed economy” needs planning security and “no constantly changing fundamental decisions”. The traffic light government must take off its ideological blinders. The CDU is also in favor of longer operating times for the remaining three nuclear power plants.
In addition, the state board calls on the federal government to speed up the implementation of major projects in the course of structural change. This included the expansion of the railway connections between Leipzig and Chemnitz as well as Berlin and Görlitz as well as the construction of two new large research centers in Lusatia and in the central German coalfield. According to current plans, the centers for astrophysics and transformation in chemistry are to be built from 2026.
