At the MoDem parliamentary days, Borne once again calls for the “unity” of the majority

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne launched an appeal for the “unity” of the majority, in front of elected officials and leaders of the MoDem, the first stop for her on a tour of the parliamentary days of the presidential camp groups.

“This is one of the conditions for our success, we need unity,” declared the Prime Minister, invited Tuesday by the MoDem to its parliamentary days in Vienna.

Élisabeth Borne had already asked for “unity” of the majority at the end of August in Tourcoing (North) during the political return of Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, who is believed to have presidential ambitions for 2027.

The head of government, who thanked her centrist allies for “their commitment”, is also expected on Thursday at the Renaissance parliamentary days, and on Friday at the political start of Horizons, the party of Edouard Philippe.

“Dear François, you were the precursor of this central bloc. And you know better than anyone that it is the unity within it that allows us to move forward, that allows us to win,” she said to the boss of the MoDem François Bayrou, present to attend a discussion between the Prime Minister and the head of deputies of the centrist party Jean-Paul Mattei.

“We will be, dear Elisabeth, at your side, in solidarity, in responsibility,” assured the latter at the opening of the discussion, while recalling that the MoDem would not fail to defend “a few ideas, on many subjects”.

The MoDem notably sent the government a list of 32 budgetary proposals to move towards more “social justice” and combat the housing crisis, while maintaining “budgetary responsibility” and helping with “business development”.

“There is a question about the taxation of assets, we want to fuel the debate” without “creating shocks” harmful to the economy, Mr. Mattei repeated again on Tuesday, who is due to present a report on the subject on September 19 with the communist deputy Nicolas Sansu.

“The debates must be able to take place”, assured Elisabeth Borne more broadly. “But I think it is also important that once the decisions have been made we move forward together, united,” she stressed.

Launched on the housing crisis, it mentioned the difficulties of accessing bank loans, degraded co-ownerships, or even “the taxation of rental housing”. “We need to find the right proposals,” she said, also calling for progress on the “decentralization” of housing.

We must “succeed in the territorialization of our ecological planning,” Ms. Borne also declared, while a roadmap from the executive must be presented next week.

She also confirmed a tour of France by ministers to debate this subject with communities, citing Christophe Béchu (Ecological Transition), Agnès Pannier-Runacher (Energy Transition), Marc Fesneau (Agriculture), Sarah El-Hairy (Biodiversity) and Roland Lescure (Industry).
