Wuppertal (dpa / lnw) – A family put their lives in danger when trying to heat the apartment with the help of a chimney starter. According to police, the 29-year-old mother and her three children, two 11-year-olds and a one-year-old baby, breathed in carbon monoxide and were hospitalized with poisoning. The incident happened on Saturday night in Wuppertal.
Accordingly, the woman had ignited charcoal inside the apartment with the chimney starter. A little later, the family members became very uncomfortable, it said. The fire brigade evacuated the entire apartment building, the neighbors were temporarily accommodated in a bus. First “Bild” had reported.
A chimney starter is a metal tube that can be used to light charcoal or briquettes and use it for grilling. This should never be done in closed rooms, but always outdoors.
