Bernburg (dpa/sa) – A 39-year-old offender has escaped from the open prison in Bernburg (Salzlandkreis). During a trial stay in a facility in Dessau-Roßlau, he undertook to present himself regularly to check the progress of his therapy, a police spokesman said on Thursday. After “abnormalities were found” and he was to be treated as an inpatient again, the man fled on Wednesday. So far it has not been found again.

The man is being held in the Bernburg correctional facility for robbery, as his crime was related to drug addiction. The so-called correctional facility is responsible for the care of mentally ill or addicted offenders.
