Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – In 2022, the state of Saxony-Anhalt supported the purchase of modern fire and disaster control vehicles with millions of euros. Overall, the state has funded fire protection equipment this year with 7.4 million euros, said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of the Interior on Thursday. Accordingly, 12 new command vehicles were ordered for civil protection. The costs for this amounted to around 3.6 million euros, but the money has not yet been fully paid out.

For fire protection, 10 turntable ladders and 16 emergency firefighting vehicles were funded. A further 6 fire engines with all-wheel drive, 5 fire engine vehicles and 5 tank fire engines were also purchased. 14 special vehicles for fighting vegetation fires were delivered in 2022 and were already used in the summer.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, the municipalities in Saxony-Anhalt are responsible for fire protection themselves. The state voluntarily promotes the procurement of fire protection vehicles.
