At the beginning of the pandemic, a corona vaccine was a pipe dream. But thanks to research, things went faster than expected in the end. As a result, millions of people opted for the saving prick.
Munich/Kempten (dpa/lby) – Around 29 million vaccinations against the virus have been carried out throughout Bavaria during the Corona crisis. Almost half of them – more than 14.3 million – were administered in the vaccination centers and by mobile vaccination teams. This was announced by the Ministry of Health at the request of the German Press Agency in Munich. In the afternoon, Bavaria’s Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) wants to present the vaccination record in detail in Kempten.
Despite the end of the corona pandemic, which experts say is looming, the Minister of Health still expects infections. “Sars-CoV-2 will not have suddenly disappeared in 2023 either,” he said. As long as no completely new, more disease-causing corona variant occurs, you are on the right track.
Holetschek once again called on the federal government to adapt the Infection Protection Act to the current situation. “It’s time to move from a phase of obligations to a phase of recommendations and ownership,” he said. Bavaria has already had good experiences with this in many areas. “The federal government should now check, for example, whether the mask requirement in long-distance transport is still up-to-date and necessary.”
In Bavaria, from January 1st, medical practices and pharmacies will be fully responsible for the corona vaccinations. The vaccination centers will cease operations at the end of the year. “There is also sufficient vaccine available from various manufacturers. Every citizen can check their own vaccination status with their family doctor and, if necessary, have a booster vaccination done,” said Holetschek.
In Bavaria (as of December 21), 83.1 percent of people over the age of 60 received the first booster vaccination, and 31.9 percent received the recommended second booster vaccination, according to the Ministry of Health.
