A Swiss plane flying from Zurich to Bilbao arrived at its destination this Saturday without a single piece of luggage in the hold, to the surprise of the passengers, the Swiss media reported this Sunday.
Passengers on the Swiss flight bound for the Spanish city waited in vain for more than two hours for their luggage to reach the conveyor belt on Saturday night, reports the Blick newspaper.
Edelweiss Air company spokesperson Kavin Ampalam confirmed that the plane took off with 111 passengers but no luggage on board. “There was a shortage of ground personnel,” he told AFP, adding that the crew had initially waited for the situation to settle.
But after more than an hour “the situation remained the same and, for operational reasons, we decided to make the flight to Bilbao without luggage.”
The reason, he explained, was the need to pick up other passengers in Bilbao and take the plane back to Zurich before the airport closed for the night. “We are sorry for the inconvenience caused,” she said.
Blick said the pilot had apologized for the delayed takeoff in Zurich, blaming “a lack of qualified personnel,” but did not mention the decision to abandon his luggage.
Passengers, for their part, claim that there were no Swiss staff on the ground in Bilbao and that they waited more than two hours to collect their luggage before staff from the Spanish airline Iberia informed them that the plane had landed without luggage on board. .
“They have ruined our vacation,” one of the passengers, Carsten Redlich, told Blick.
“We are still analyzing the situation to find out exactly what has happened. This should not happen,” the spokesman for the Swiss company has settled.
