Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) – Hesse is increasing the pressure to control illegal car races in the state. In the pilot operation, three specially developed civil police vehicles with video function are currently being used to track banned motor vehicle races, Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU) told the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden. Throughout Hesse, around 50 officers are deployed in seven specialized control units to track speeder, tuner and Pose violations as well as prohibited motor vehicle races.

“Anyone who races recklessly endangers their fellow human beings and themselves,” emphasized Beuth. “We have set up specialized control units in all seven police headquarters in order to put a stop to meaningless laps in our inner cities and horsepower ostentation on our country roads.” Punishing violations consistently is necessary to stop inconsiderate behavior and to prevent uninvolved citizens from being endangered.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, after 155 criminal charges had been filed in 2020, the number of charges due to banned motor vehicle races rose to 257 in 2021. For the current year, it is expected that the development of violations will at least remain at the level of the previous year .
