Neuried (dpa / lby) – A 77-year-old man from Upper Bavaria was cheated over the Internet by several 100,000 euros. The previously unknown perpetrators pretended to be employees of a bank, the police said on Monday. According to this, an unknown person told the man by phone that his account had been hacked, after which the man stated that he was occupying other accounts. Shortly thereafter, a second false bank employee reported to whom the man “without a doubt” gave his bank details. As a result, the strangers made more than 100 transfer orders, including to foreign accounts, and sold shares in the man.
The senior from Neuried (Munich district) only became aware of the fraud when he received a call from a real bank employee who found the transfers unusual. According to the police, the Cybercrime department is now investigating.
