Erfurt (dpa/th) – Just in time for Christmas, children’s books in the Ukrainian language will also be available in the Erfurt children’s and youth library on Marktstrasse. “The demand is definitely there,” said a library employee on Friday. In the past few weeks, the Ministry of the Interior had collected a total of 250 euros in donations, as the city administration announced. The package of books in Ukrainian was bought with the money.
The books come from the initiative Kibadu (“Children’s books from the Ukraine”) of the Mauke publishing house. As a “book bridge” for Ukrainian children who have fled to Germany, the publisher buys children’s books directly from Ukraine. “This not only makes refugee children happy, but also preserves Ukrainian culture and helps publishers in Ukraine,” the city quoted a ministry official as saying.
