Marl (dpa / lnw) – A bank robber set fire to a bank branch in Marl after a failed robbery. The masked and armed perpetrator entered the bank on Tuesday afternoon and demanded money at gunpoint, a police spokeswoman in Recklinghausen reported. When this was not handed over to him immediately, he spilled a flammable liquid from a bottle he had brought with him and set it on fire. Then he fled. The staff present and two customers were able to escape to the outside. The fire brigade extinguished the fire shortly afterwards. The fire caused significant damage to the bank’s premises. The bank robber was still being sought on Thursday evening.
