Wernigerode (dpa/sa) – After the attack on an emergency doctor during a rescue operation in Wernigerode, Interior Minister Tamara Zieschang (CDU) expressed outrage. “Rescue services and emergency doctors are on duty 365 days a year to help – and many people in Saxony-Anhalt are very grateful for that,” said Zieschang on Thursday in Magdeburg. “It’s all the more frightening when rescue workers are insulted and physically attacked. I have absolutely no understanding for such behavior.”
According to the police, during the treatment of a patient on Wednesday night, her son punched the emergency doctor in the face. According to the information, the 22-year-old disliked the duration of the medical first aid. The doctor had suffered, among other things, a nasal bone fracture and had to be treated in a clinic.
Interior Minister Zieschang emphasized: “It is good and important that the range of penalties for attacks on rescue workers was increased in 2017. I wish the affected emergency doctor a speedy recovery.”
