At the end of the year, the State Statistical Office in Halle traditionally compiles a few key data on the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Fresh figures from the statistics authority also came on Wednesday. A selection.
Halle (dpa/sa) – The State Statistical Office has been showing Saxony-Anhalt in numbers for years and publishes an overview every year at the end of the year – the Statistical Yearbook. It was re-released on Wednesday. How have income, age and population, among other things, developed?
POPULATION
The number of inhabitants was recently declining in Saxony-Anhalt. As of December 31, 2021, 2,169,253 people lived in the state, according to the statistics agency. That was 11,431 fewer than in the previous year. According to the State Statistical Office, a significant birth deficit of 21,265 people was decisive for this.
GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT
In 2021, the federal state’s gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 5.9 percent compared to the previous year to 67,111 million euros. In 2020, GDP had fallen by a nominal 2.2 percent to 63,372 million compared to 2019. Foreign trade in particular made a significant contribution to the gains after a slump in 2020. The development in Saxony-Anhalt was almost at the level of the development in Germany (plus 6 percent) and above that in the eastern German federal states excluding Berlin (plus 5.3 percent).
REALLOHN
In the third quarter of 2022, real wages in Saxony-Anhalt fell for the fifth time in a row compared to the previous year. The price-adjusted real wage was 4.9 percent lower than in the same quarter of the previous year, according to preliminary figures from the State Statistical Office. Accordingly, the development of nominal wages has no longer compensated for inflation since the third quarter of 2021.
ALTER
According to the State Statistical Office, the average age of the population in 2021 was 48.1 years. In 1990, at 38.4, it was almost ten years less.
TOURISM
After severe cuts during the pandemic, tourism seems to be over the hill. While arrivals and overnight stays here fell by more than a third in 2020, the negative trend slowed down in 2021. Up to and including September 2022, more than 6 million overnight stays were registered again in this reporting year. In 2021 there were only around 5.8 million overnight stays throughout the year.
COLORFUL
In 2021, an average of 44 children were born in the state. In the same year, 77,000 people spoke at least one other language at home in addition to German. In 2021, almost 1850 tons of asparagus were harvested. That makes about 850 grams of asparagus per Saxony-Anhalt.
