Dürrwangen/Schopfloch (dpa/lby) – At least three free-roaming sika deer were recently spotted in the Ansbach district. The Ansbach district office announced on Tuesday that these should have broken out of the enclosures. Because the sika deer does not occur in the wild in the region, but is only kept in enclosures. The authorities said the animals had been seen in the area of ??the municipalities of Dürrwangen and Schopfloch in the south of the district.
The district office asks owners of sika deer to check their stocks and to report if animals are missing. In the event of accidents with wildlife or if the animals cause damage in forests, the keepers would have to be liable in principle. Originally from East Asia, sika deer are now found in many parts of the world. They can weigh up to 70 kilograms. This makes them about the size of fallow deer.
