The free economy is already making good use of the tax-free inflation premium. Now the public service of the country should also benefit from it.

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – According to the will of the unions, the state’s employees and civil servants should also receive a tax-free inflation bonus of up to 3,000 euros. Verdi demands this in a letter available to the German Press Agency in Stuttgart to Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens).

“Make your contribution to overcoming this crisis, relieve your employees. Send a sign of solidarity with your employees in the public sector,” demand Verdi country boss Martin Gross and his deputy, Hanna Binder on behalf of the DGB unions. The next regular collective bargaining round in the federal states is still too far away to be able to compensate for the current financial difficulties of the employees. The country has about 190,000 civil servants and around 140,000 employees.

The next collective bargaining round of the federal states is not due until autumn next year. Then it will be particularly important to achieve a long-term equalization of purchasing power. “This goal cannot be met by the tax- and duty-free premium payment. Its granting is not dependent on the collective bargaining next year and should not be made dependent on the collective bargaining round either.”

Gross and Binder also explained that when the collective agreement was reached between the union and the employers in November 2021, both sides assumed that they had reached a good compromise. “With Russia’s attack on Ukraine on February 24, 2022, all economic forecasts were invalid.”
