France will still benefit from a largely sunny day on Friday, September 8, even if a cloudy veil will persist over the West, with high temperatures everywhere in the country. 14 departments are on heatwave orange alert and two regions are affected: Île-de-France and Centre-Val de Loire. 36 other departments will be on yellow alert.

Météo-France warns of a “late episode of high heat that could impact the health of the most vulnerable people”. Above all, this episode is “remarkable and unprecedented for the month of September”. Before completing: “This is the first time that an orange heat wave vigilance has been triggered beyond the summer period, since the establishment of vigilance for this phenomenon in 2004.”

The public body predicts maximums of 37 degrees in Centre-Val de Loire, and between 34 and 36 degrees in the rest of the country. The minimums will be between 18 and 20 degrees. “Night temperatures will increase over the coming days,” Météo-France also warns.

Only Brittany will be affected from midday by a little instability which will manifest itself in cloudy developments giving locally light showers. On the Pyrenean reliefs, a few showers will break out again during the afternoon. The autan wind will remain present on the heights of the Tarn in the morning.

The maximums will rise to very high levels, with 26 to 28 degrees in Brittany and the edges of the Channel and 30 to 34 degrees everywhere else. The mercury will peak at 35 to 36 degrees in the Paris region, the Centre-Val de Loire region and northern Auvergne.
