The perfect course of the French team in these Euro 2024 qualifiers continues. With a 2-0 victory over Ireland thanks to goals from Aurélien Tchouaméni and Marcus Thuram, Didier Deschamps’ group soared in their group with 15 points on the clock and above all still had not conceded a single goal in official matches for nine months. A good omen for the future.
The Blues demonstrated their intentions from the start with a powerful strike from Adrien Rabiot but Bazunu was well on the trajectory (3rd). The Irish try to unite in the last thirty meters as in the first leg but Didier Deschamps’ men have resources like Aurélien Tchouaméni. Staggered by Kylian Mbappé, the Real Madrid midfielder didn’t ask any questions and curled his shot into the opponent’s top corner (1-0, 19th) to open the scoring.

The Blues push to widen the gap but on a cross from the left, Olivier Giroud goes into a duel and twists his ankle. The top scorer in the history of the Blues is forced to give up his place, replaced by Marcus Thuram (26th) at the forefront of the French attack.
Before half-time, Didier Deschamps’ men tried again to shake the net. Kylian Mbappé tries from afar but the captain of the Blues is not dangerous enough for the Irish goalkeeper (36th). A few moments later, the PSG striker thought to score but his achievement was flagged for rightly offside by Marcus Thuram at the start of the action. The Blues return to the locker room with a short but valuable advantage.
France will come back in the second half with the same intentions and will succeed in scoring a new goal. After a mix-up in the area, the ball returned to Marcus Thuram who managed to turn around and outwit the opposing defense (2-0, 48th). The son of Lilian Thuram, who joined Inter Milan this summer, scored his first goal with the Blues for his eleventh selection. Ireland reacts quickly but the 2018 world champions can rely on Mike Maignan who makes a quality save in front of Ogbene (51st).
The third goal is not far away for the tricolor selection: Tchouaméni again arms a heavy strike from thirty meters but Bazunu intervenes (71st). Shortly after, Ousmane Dembélé made the difference one on one. The new PSG striker, however, saw his shot crash into the opposing post (73rd). In this less rhythmic second act, the Blues kept the ball (66% possession) and rotated. Didier Deschamps took the opportunity to make some changes with the entries of William Saliba, Kingsley Coman, Benjamin Pavard and Eduardo Camavinga.
Without forcing its talent and having quickly taken cover, France did the work seriously to achieve a fifth success in a row in these Euro 2024 qualifiers. The Blues are very close to securing their ticket to Germany is their next destination this Tuesday for a friendly match against the Mannschaft, just to round off these September meetings with another flawless performance.
