The small community of Illerkirchberg never comes to rest. A bloody attack on two schoolgirls made headlines last week. Now the mayor is dealing with a released criminal.
Ulm (dpa / lsw) – The district office of Alb-Donau-Kreis and the associated municipality of Illerkirchberg have spoken out in favor of the deportation of a convicted Afghan criminal. The man and other men raped a 14-year-old girl in a refugee home in Illerkirchberg in 2019. He was sentenced to prison but is now free. After his release from prison, the community had to take him back, according to their own words.
“I was horrified,” said Mayor Markus Häußler (independent). “That’s why I pulled out all the stops to prevent that.” But the effort was in vain. “We were forced to house the convicted criminal again. The real solution would be deportation. The next best thing would be to house him somewhere else.”
According to the district office, accommodation in another district is not possible. “Before the release from prison, the Tübingen regional council had issued a spatial restriction for the Alb-Donau district,” said a spokeswoman in Ulm. Moving to another municipality in the district would not solve the problem. “The only effective solution is deportation.” The responsible ministry had emphatically campaigned for this – “but in vain due to the attitude of the federal government”.
In a letter to Interior Minister Nancy Faser (SPD), Justice Minister Marion Gentges (CDU) spoke out in favor of the man being deported to Afghanistan. Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) had explained that it was technically impossible to deport people to Afghanistan because no planes could land there under the current conditions. The federal government had suspended deportations to the country due to the security situation.
According to media reports, the fact that the convicted criminal continued to live in the town came to light at a crisis meeting after a bloody attack on two girls in Illerkirchberg last week. A 14-year-old died in the attack. A man from Eritrea, who has since been in custody for murder and attempted murder, is accused.
