Munich (dpa / lby) – Despite the messed up final sprint before the World Cup break, TSV 1860 Munich is sticking to its promotion mission. “The goal hasn’t changed for the second half of the season either,” stressed “Löwen” coach Michael Köllner in the “Passauer Neue Presse”. After a splendid start to the season, the traditional Bavarian club from the 3rd soccer league slipped into a results crisis and fell from second to sixth place. “I’ll go ahead to rekindle the enthusiasm,” Köllner promised.
Köllner wants to use the long winter break until the first league game at Waldhof Mannheim on January 14 to readjust. “We can do 30 training sessions and 5 friendlies in winter. That’s a great gift, but you have to use it for yourself,” said the man from the Upper Palatinate, describing the extensive break as “additional pre-season”. For the first time, the Munich team will test against second division club 1. FC Nürnberg this Friday.
The football teacher did not rule out newcomers. “Of course we’re checking what’s sportingly and economically feasible. Now let’s see what’s on the market. It’s clear that it has to be a player for the top and not for the width,” said the 52-year-old.
