Halle/Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – In Saxony-Anhalt fewer children and adolescents were again treated in hospital after alcohol abuse in the past year. There were 425 children and young people, 6.6 percent fewer than in 2020, said DAK-Gesundheit with reference to data from the State Statistical Office. 237 boys and 259 girls were among the young people treated for the consequences of alcohol.
The downward trend among 10 to under 20 year olds continued during the pandemic. Already in the first Corona year 2020 there was a minus of around 35 percent in Saxony-Anhalt compared to 2019. At that time there were still 697 people affected.
“Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have seen a decrease in the number of acute alcohol poisonings in children and adolescents in hospital. That is very gratifying,” said Steffen Meyrich, head of the DAK state representation in Saxony-Anhalt. “Nevertheless, binge drinking is a dangerous fact. Alcohol affects young people faster, stronger and longer than adults.”
Important health issues like this should be discussed in everyday school life. Together with Health Minister Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD), DAK-Gesundheit is continuing the alcohol prevention campaign “colorful instead of blue”. We are looking for the best poster ideas on the subject of binge drinking.
