Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – In the trial against the former Frankfurt Mayor Peter Feldmann (SPD), the regional court will decide this Wednesday on the defense’s request to hear other witnesses (trial begins at 9.30 a.m.). Feldmann’s lawyers are hoping for information from these, among other things, that the SPD politician, who was voted out of office in a referendum on November 6, did not give preference to Arbeiterwohlfahrt (Awo) in comparison to other social organizations.

If the court doesn’t grant the motions because the judges don’t think the witnesses will contribute further to the clarification, they won’t be summoned – and the pleadings could start on the same day. In total, two hearing dates until December 21 have been scheduled in the proceedings because of the suspicion of accepting an advantage.

The public prosecutor’s office accuses Feldmann of having accepted donations and other benefits from Awo – including a management position in an Awo daycare center for his then girlfriend, including a company car. In return, according to the indictment read at the beginning of the trial on October 18, he wanted to consider the interests of the social association in a benevolent manner. The SPD politician has rejected the allegations.
