Herzogenaurach (dpa / lby) – Employees of the automotive and industrial supplier Schaeffler want to demonstrate on Wednesday at the company’s headquarters in Herzogenaurach against the company’s planned downsizing.

Schaeffler announced in November that it would cut 1,300 more jobs, primarily in business areas that deal with technology for combustion vehicles. 1000 jobs are to be eliminated by 2026 in Germany alone. According to the union, talks about the program between management and employee representatives will begin on Wednesday.

Employees from all German Schaeffler locations are expected to attend the protest event initiated by the IG Metall trade union. The union called on the company to make the plants more sustainable instead of relying on downsizing. In addition, the employees should be qualified in order to be fit for the new challenges.
