Dresden (dpa/sn) – The Ukraine House in Dresden will present prominent authors from the war-affected country this Thursday. In addition to Sofia Andrukhovych, Andriy Ljubka and Roman Malynowsky are expected to attend a reading and talk, the meeting center announced on Monday. Andruchowytsch, born in 1982, became known with her novel “The Paper Boy”, published in 2016. Her novel trilogy “Amadoka” was published in Ukraine in 2020 and sparked heated debates about the country’s role in National Socialism and in the 2014 Russia annexation of Crimea. The trilogy is also scheduled to appear in German translation in January.
The poems of the author Andriy Lyubka, who was born in 1987, have already been translated into several languages, and the volume “Notaufnahme” was published in German, the Ukraine House said. Roman Malynowsky, born in 1985, is a writer and art director at the Babylonian Library publishing house and drew attention to himself last year with his collection of short stories “Sweet Life”. The three authors also want to report on how the war changed their lives and their work. The event is sponsored by the Federal Foreign Office.
At the same time, the Ukraine House provided information about a fundraising campaign for children in Ukraine. Under the motto “Bring light into the darkness”, money is to be collected for generators and chargers. The background to this is the targeted Russian attacks on the energy grid in Ukraine, which led to power cuts in many cities and also made it difficult for children to learn. Power banks, battery lamps, headlamps, flashlights and batteries would also be needed, it said.
