Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – Winter will come in Saxony-Anhalt in the next few days with permafrost and light snowfall. After a frosty third Sunday in Advent with flakes here and there, the new week will be freezing cold, the German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Saturday. According to the DWD, temperatures can fall to minus 10 degrees Celsius in sheltered valley locations, and even to minus 13 degrees in the Harz Mountains. The wind will be weak to moderate from the north-west.

The weather will be exciting from Wednesday. According to the DWD, a strong low will move from France to Germany to Eastern Europe in the middle of the week. So far it is unclear where exactly the low is moving: this is decisive in which regions heavy snowfall can be expected. Freezing rain is also possible.

According to the DWD, December has so far been significantly colder than the long-term average of the reference period from 1991 to 2020.
