Erfurt (dpa/th) – For many hairdressing companies in Thuringia, it is becoming increasingly difficult to recruit young people. Young people are choosing this profession less and less, as can be seen from figures from the Thuringian Crafts Day. While 153 young people completed a training contract as a hairdresser in 2018, there were only 93 in 2020. The number of hairdresser trainees stabilized at 94 this year, a spokeswoman for the Chamber of Crafts said on request.

Because of the high inflation, which affects not only the craft businesses but also their customers, many hairdressers fear a significant drop in sales in the coming year. It is already noticeable that many customers are increasing the intervals between visits to the hairdresser, according to the state guild.
