Haan (dpa / lnw) – Three people were seriously injured in a traffic accident after a chase with the police in Haan (Mettmann district). According to the police on Wednesday, a 22-year-old driver fled from the police and then lost control of his car. He got into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with another car. The 22-year-old, his 19-year-old passenger and the 54-year-old driver of the other car were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after the accident late Tuesday evening. The two fugitives have been arrested and are under guard in the hospital.

Officials initially wanted to check the young man’s car. However, he fled and ran several red lights before losing control of the car. In the accident, he was pinned in his car and his passenger was thrown out of the car. The fire brigade came to free the 22-year-old.

Police found burglary tools in the man’s car. According to the authority, he had already come into contact with the police several times. He is also suspected of not having a valid driver’s license. According to the police, alcohol and drug use could not be ruled out either. The authorities estimate the damage at around 20,000 euros.
