Halle (dpa/sa) – People in Saxony-Anhalt can look forward to St. Nicholas Day with lots of sweets. In the first half of 2022, almost 35 tons of confectionery (excluding long-life baked goods) were produced in Saxony-Anhalt, as reported by the State Statistical Office in Halle (Saale) on Monday. According to this, every inhabitant in Saxony-Anhalt is entitled to almost 16 kilograms of chocolate, marzipan, sweets and the like.
But not only sweets from local production fill the Santa Claus boots. According to the State Statistical Office, almost 7,000 tons of chocolate were imported to Saxony-Anhalt from abroad in 2021, including almost 69 tons of white chocolate. Most chocolate was imported from Poland, followed by Belgium and Italy.
