The president of the National Rally (RN), Jordan Bardella, confirmed Sunday, September 3 with Le Figaro that he would “naturally” be at the top of his party’s list in the European elections of June 2024. “As outgoing MEP and party leader, I will naturally lead the National Rally list,” said Bardella, who sees this election as “the only opportunity for the French to sanction the government and prepare for the post-Emmanuel Macron era” before 2027.

The decision of the president of the RN, who came first in the 2019 ballot with 23.34% of the vote, ahead of the Macronist majority (22.42%), was little in doubt. He explains the springs by the “distribution of roles” with Marine Le Pen, evoking “a complementary duo”.

“Today, it is my responsibility, as Marine Le Pen chairs our group in the National Assembly, to lead this battle which will be both national and European and to ensure that the National Rally wins these European elections. . This is the last step that separates us from power, “he said in his interview with Le Figaro.

No representative in the presidential camp

Mr. Bardella, who will soon celebrate his 28th birthday, poses as a candidate for the “supporters of power” of France, “in the face of the forces of renunciation which range from Jean-Luc Mélenchon to Emmanuel Macron”. He thus intends to bring together “all those who think that France is still a great nation with a millennial identity, a culture, a genius, borders and prosperity to conquer”, he explains.

“There are undeniably some of these patriots among those disappointed with [Les Républicains], perhaps among those disappointed with Eric Zemmour, and obviously, well beyond partisan divisions. There are also these patriots on the left ”, still wants to believe the MEP.

“France has been dispossessed of everything that forged its capacity for action and this taste for greatness, this taste for power, this taste for the past, for the present and for the future is shared among beyond the borders of the National Rally, ”argues Mr. Bardella again.

Among the main political forces, Europe Ecologie-Les Verts with Marie Toussaint and the Communist Party with Léon Deffontaines have already chosen their lead candidates for the ballot in early June 2024. On the other hand, the Macronist majority has not has yet formally made its choice, and, on the left, discussions continue to get bogged down with La France insoumise, which is campaigning for a common list.
