Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The federal police at Stuttgart Airport arrested a 38-year-old man who pretended to be a police officer and is said to have stolen cash and jewelry worth around 130,000 euros. According to information from the federal police on Friday, the man and accomplices are said to have pretended to be the police on the phone to a married couple and claimed that there had been burglaries in the neighborhood. Therefore, the couple should supposedly bring their valuables to safety. With another call, in which the other party posed as the public prosecutor’s office, the information provided by the alleged police was confirmed.

The deceived couple then withdrew cash of 28,000 euros from the bank, packed it with jewelry worth 100,000 euros and documents in a bag and handed them over to the 38-year-old at their apartment door.

When the fake police officer returned to Stuttgart from a stay in Turkey, he was arrested. There was an international arrest warrant against him from the Stuttgart public prosecutor’s office. The 38-year-old is now in custody.
