In fact, demonstrators from the “last generation” are taking the Greens’ demands to the extreme. Economics Minister Habeck is now sharply attacking the activists and casting doubt on their form of protest. They don’t help the matter, unlike “Fridays For Future”.

Federal Climate Protection Minister Robert Habeck has criticized the actions of the climate protest group “Last Generation”. “Of course I understand their frustration, anger, and their existential fear,” he said in an interview with “Stern”. “But in the end, a political goal in a democracy needs a majority. And forms of protest that anger people don’t really help.”

The breaches of taboos by the group “Fridays for Future” were dosed so cleverly that a large number of people were able to gather behind them, the minister added. “They have not destroyed or soiled anything.” This is the big difference to the “last generation”. “Here we are experiencing a radicalization of the few. That’s bad,” said Habeck. “Anyone who has to pursue climate policy from a minority position has already lost.”

The Green politician admitted that Germany, like the rest of the world, was “years too late” when it came to climate protection. “Yeah, it’s going to be damn difficult,” he said. The task is “immense”. “But the answer to that is concrete action.”

In the past few weeks, the climate protest group “Last Generation” in particular has drawn attention to itself with blockades in road traffic, but also with attacks on works of art in museums and has started a debate about the sense of such actions. Chancellor Olaf Scholz was also critical of the actions.
