Offenbach/Essen (dpa/lnw) – Autumn was exceptionally warm in North Rhine-Westphalia this year. At 11.8 degrees, the average temperature was 2.3 degrees above the internationally valid reference period from 1961 to 1990, as the German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Wednesday. In NRW, together with autumn 2014, it was the second warmest autumn since nationwide measurements began in 1881.

Among all federal states, autumn 2022 in NRW occupies the top place in terms of average temperature. The highest daily temperature in Germany was also measured in NRW: the measuring station in Kleve showed 32.3 degrees on September 5th.

According to provisional figures, the sun shone for quite a long time from September to November at around 380 hours (reference period: 294 hours). According to the DWD, the main reason was the very sunny November. On average, 205 liters of rain fell per square meter (208).
