Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) – In the trial of the mayor of Frankfurt, Peter Feldmann (SPD), who is suspected of corruption and has been voted out, a former manager of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (Awo) has been invited again. Hannelore Richter was a special representative of the management of the Frankfurt Awo and is said to have asked Feldmann several times by SMS to support her association. Richter was summoned for the second time this Wednesday, and the defense wanted to question her (the hearing began at 9:30 a.m.).
During her first appearance in court, Richter admitted sending the SMS, but stated that Feldmann was not for sale. He didn’t give the “Awo the black under the fingernails,” said the judge before the district court. “I didn’t buy him and he couldn’t be bought.”
The public prosecutor accuses Feldmann of accepting donations and other benefits from Awo. In return, he wanted to benevolently consider the interests of the social association. Feldmann has so far denied the allegations. The 64-year-old was voted out in a referendum on November 6th.
The case against Feldmann is linked to the Awo scandal involving allegations of fraud amounting to millions of euros against former management officials of the association in Frankfurt and Wiesbaden. Several investigations are underway against Hannelore Richter, including for granting advantages. She has been charged with suspected fraud worth millions. Her lawyer has denied the allegations.
