Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – The export of gingerbread and honey cake from Hesse has increased rapidly over the past ten years. As the State Statistical Office announced on Friday in Wiesbaden for the first Advent (November 27), around 124,000 kilograms of the coveted Christmas cookies were sent all over the world in 2021, four times as much as in the previous year. Compared to 2011, the amount has even increased tenfold.

The state office put the value of the exports at around 896,000 euros. The main buyers in 2021 were the United Kingdom with 75,000 kilos, followed by Australia (25,000 kilos) and Italy (12,000 kilos). The statisticians did not give any reasons for the increase.

According to the information, the quantities relate exclusively to goods that were sent abroad from Hesse. The gingerbread does not necessarily have to have been produced in Hesse.
