Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) – Hesse wants to increase its capacity in the initial reception facilities for refugees by at least 1050 places in the short term. The head of the state chancellery Axel Wintermeyer (CDU) announced on Thursday in Wiesbaden that the Gießen regional council wants to build more accommodation at the Friedberg and Büdingen locations. In Friedberg, after structural damage, receptivity is restored as quickly as possible. Wintermeyer is the state government’s refugee coordinator.

According to the State Chancellery, Hesse has taken in 80,300 war refugees from Ukraine and 15,400 asylum seekers in 2022. As Wintermeyer went on to say, the state has set up a coordination office at the Gießen regional council in order to support the municipalities quickly and unbureaucratically with specific questions.
