Krefeld (dpa / lnw) – Because a British five-hundredweight bomb in Krefeld Fichtenhain near the A44 has to be defused, the motorway will be closed on Thursday afternoon (today) between the Krefeld-Osterrath and -Fichtenhain junctions. The lockdown was due to begin at 3:30 p.m. Experts from the explosive ordnance clearance service of the Düsseldorf district government should then defuse the bomb. As the city of Krefeld announced, twelve affected households near the site and an adjacent commercial area were evacuated. The population is continuously informed via the local radio station Welle Niederrhein. People could also follow the development on the city’s website (www.krefeld.de).
