Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – The CDU parliamentary group has asked the green coalition partner to ensure clarity in the climate goals. After Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) expressed doubts about the goals in the transport sector on Tuesday, the CDU now referred to the coalition agreement. In it and in the climate protection law, “very specific goals” have been agreed, said a parliamentary group spokesman on Wednesday of the German Press Agency in Stuttgart. “We are irritated by the polyphony, since now concrete goals are apparently to be moved away.” He added: “This finding should be completed by the time the climate protection law is introduced in the state parliament, so that we can meet our ambitious schedule.” Climate protection is a central concern for the CDU. “We shouldn’t stumble now.”
Kretschmann declared on Tuesday that achieving the climate target for traffic would become a problem due to a lack of money. “That’s why I’m not involved in the race to formulate ever stricter goals,” said the head of government. The country would have to reduce greenhouse gases in transport by 55 percent within seven years in order to achieve its climate targets. However, when the climate protection law was presented with the sectoral targets, the Prime Minister had already declared: “Whether we will ultimately achieve the targets will only become apparent afterwards.”
However, there are also doubts in the CDU parliamentary group as to whether the climate target for transport can be achieved. “I’m not a friend of just putting goals in the shop window,” said the group’s expert, Thomas Dörflinger, on Tuesday.
