Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – In addition to the federal relief measures, the SPD parliamentary group still considers a separate package from the state of Saxony-Anhalt to be necessary. Among other things, clubs, social and cultural institutions that are threatened with their existence should be supported, explained Katja Pähle after a budget meeting of her parliamentary group on Tuesday evening. “The economic situation also justifies further borrowing,” said the parliamentary group leader.

The state government introduced the draft budget to the state parliament last Friday. It envisages spending of around 13.5 billion euros. It is now up to Parliament as the budget legislator.

According to Pähle, the SPD, which governs Saxony-Anhalt together with the CDU and FDP, is also working towards better pay for primary school teachers. In order to increase the attractiveness of primary school teaching, “teachers should finally be upgraded to salary group E 13/A 13,” said the SPD parliamentary group. “We need a realistic phased plan for rapid induction for all primary school teachers, starting with this budget.” Elementary school teachers in Saxony-Anhalt earn up to 500 euros less than their colleagues in other school types. They are paid better in other states.

The SPD parliamentary group sees other priorities in investments in hospitals, an accelerated expansion of renewable energies and in research and development in storage and hydrogen technology.
