Munich (dpa / lby) – The case of an S-Bahn pusher has been heard since Monday before the Greater Criminal Chamber of the Munich I Regional Court. The accused is a 42-year-old who, according to the Munich I public prosecutor’s office, attempted murder but was not guilty due to a mental illness. At the end of November 2021, he is said to have pushed a 38-year-old in front of an incoming S-Bahn train at Stachus. The drunk victim was hit by the train and survived with serious injuries. His left leg had to be amputated below his knee.

The accused stated in court that he saw the “devil he was supposed to kill” in the 38-year-old. The prophetic order for this was given to him by “the believers and God”. He recognized the difference between believers and devils by looking at a person’s mouth and nose.

According to prosecutors, the Egyptian-born man has been suffering from paranoid schizophrenia since 2016. Shortly before the crime, he stopped taking his medication, which significantly worsened his mental state. The 42-year-old admitted in court that he also wanted to kill on two other occasions.

During his statements before the big criminal court, the man repeatedly broke out in spontaneous laughter. The victim, who was called as a witness, yelled at the accused: “You took my life”. Six more days of negotiations are scheduled.
