Rostock (dpa/mv) – Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania starts the Christmas market season this week. Germany’s largest Christmas market opens on Monday in Rostock, as well as the markets in Schwerin, Wismar and Stralsund. The Christmas markets in Neubrandenburg and Greifswald will follow on Thursday. Usually until shortly before Christmas, the markets attract visitors with mulled wine, carousels or handicrafts.
Last year, Christmas markets ended prematurely due to the corona virus or did not take place at all. In 2020 there was a total failure – also because of Corona. This year, organizers and showmen are reacting to the increased energy costs with energy-saving measures. Some of the markets also do without ice rinks.
