“This measure is not on the program, the president told the French. Should we, however, go further in the future and legalize surrogacy? I think so, yes, “said Minister Delegate for Transport Clément Beaune and member of the left wing of the majority, in an interview with L’Obs.
Not appearing in the program of Emmanuel Macron, who makes the question of surrogate mothers a red line, “it will not be done in this legislature”, frames the minister, but “there is on one side so many suffering children and dysfunctional families, and on the other, so many couples who carry in their hearts a project of children… ”, he argues in the weekly.
His other argument relates to equal access to surrogacy. “Today, the French can in fact already use surrogacy. But not all French people! Only those who have the means to go abroad: to Canada, to the United States… The selection is done by money and contacts. Having our own framework and our own rules would be fairer and more protective,” concludes Emmanuel Macron’s former special adviser on European issues.
