Moritzburg (dpa / sn) – Cinderella and the prince are back. One week before the first Advent, the doors to the traditional winter exhibition on the cult film “Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella” open in Moritzburg Castle near Dresden on Saturday. “We and our guests are looking forward to it with great anticipation,” said the Managing Director of the State Palaces, Castles and Gardens, Christian Striefler, on Thursday. “From afar we can already hear the clatter of hooves and the catchy melody creeps into our ears so that everything can soon start again.”

In addition to recreated film scenes, multimedia and installations, around 20 original costumes from the Prague Barrandov Studios and Potsdam-Babelsberg and film props can also be seen. This also includes the wedding dress worn by Cinderella actress Libuše Šafránková (1953-2021) and the state stud’s gala carriage, in which the king and queen drove through the Moritzburg winter landscape. They made it possible to experience the world around the film, said director Dominique Fliegler.

The baroque hunting lodge of the Saxon Elector August the Strong (1670-1733) was a film location for the German-Czech co-production from 1972/1973, which became a cult and has been part of the Christmas television program for over 40 years.

Since 2011, fans and other visitors have been able to immerse themselves in the scenery of the fairy tale classic film adaptation in Moritzburg every winter and from the stepmother’s kitchen, where doves peck “the good ones in the potty, the bad ones in the crop”, through the stable of Cinderella’s horse Nicholas to walk to the ballroom. Over a million people have done so so far. Corona lockdowns and restrictions, however, slowed down the response: according to SBG, the number of visitors fell to just over 9,400 last season – from 111,000 in the season before the pandemic.
